Signs of Early Trauma

Adults

Babies

How can you tell if your life is effected now by your experiences in the womb or during birth?

Many of us have experienced womb or birth trauma and are unaware of the impact it is having on our lives. From conception onward our parents had a deep impact upon us at all levels. The nature of their relationship with each other at conception and through the pregnancy, events and the emotional environment in our immediate families of origin, e.g. bereavements, whether you were planned and wanted or not, and much more, all effect us in the womb and color our experience of our world after birth. In addition to these ‘environmental’ factors which on their own can be the origin of many prenatal trauma’s, there are also other causes of early trauma and shock (see FAQ’s)

If we choose to heal ourselves we can improve our lives, and the lives of future generations. Once a deep wound has been healed and integrated, it will not be passed on to future generations.

The following is a partial list of some of the common signs of early traumatic imprints. You will see that there are a number of common issues whose origins may have been, and often are, much earlier than we generally think:

Adults

  • Feeling isolated
  • Inappropriate responses to situations, e.g. feeling scared or even terrified when there is nothing threatening happening in present time.
  • Unable to maintain healthy or long-term relationships
  • Feelings, sensations and reactions that you can't make sense of e.g. fear/terror of people, groups, tunnels, bridges, etc., and claustrophobia
  • Unable to bond and attach to people, or to spirit
  • Unable to trust
  • Feeling there is something inside you that you can't change, or connect with
  • Disturbed sleep patterns
  • Eating problems
  • Feeling shocked (e.g. numb emotionally, and/or physically, absent, cut-off, unable to remember, concentrate, or hear what is being said at times)
  • Addictions
  • Depression
  • Anger
  • High stress levels
  • Recurring and persistent health issues: aches, pains, illness, disease
  • Spontaneous flashbacks to the womb or birth
  • Behaviors that you know are bad for you, but you just can't stop
  • Dissociation
  • Hyper-vigilence
  • An inability to let down, relax and settle in yourself

Babies

  • Not sleeping
  • Not latching on and feeding well
  • Not present in their eyes
  • No eye contact
