Prenatal Parenting: Bonding with Your Unborn Child

Pre-Conception & Conscious Conception

There are many ways that our children communicate with us before conception. Dreams, visions at the edge of sleep, meeting during meditation, a sense of a hovering presence, an inner voice, telepathic thoughts/conversations and even moving physical objects to get attention! In The Tibetan Art of Parenting, Ann Hubbell Maiden believes that the baby’s consciousness manifests in the mother’s dreams.... and they are often a way to bridge life in this world with other lives .... ‘mother may experience unusual dreams as if they belonged to someone else’.

Figure 338, The Language of the GoddessDreams can also give advance information about the person coming to be born. The unborn child can also communicate with other receptive people in his/her environment - friends, family, co-workers. We are not all able to receive telepathic messages, and the unborn child will use who is available and receptive.

Often in dreams or visitations the child will appear older, e.g. 3 or 6 years old, and multiple experiences may happen so that you really get to know your child before conception.

I felt for many years before my granddaughter was born that I knew her, I knew that she would come, and that she would definitely be a girl. I waited for her for a long time, at least it felt that way to me, although my son was only 23 years old when she was born! We have a very strong connection even though I physically don’t see her very often. I didn’t have a visual sense of her, it was more an inner knowing of her, as if I already knew her.

Many people dream what their child looked liked at a certain age and when they get to that age they look exactly the way they did in the dream. Couples who have no intention of having a baby ever, or who have even had tubal ligations, will dream of a child wanting to be born to them, and this will have the effect of them changing their minds, even reversing surgery.

The Pre-conception period is an ideal time to be thinking about and assessing all aspects of your life, and the changes you may want to make before you become pregnant. This period can be a few weeks, months or years. These changes could be career, emotional/psychological, physical and health, in your home or the location of your home, and in your relationship with each other as prospective parents.
Having a baby is going to create huge changes in your lives, which you will have to manage in the midst of sleep deprivation - loss of freedom, changes in your sexual life, etc. These changes can be overwhelming, unless you are prepared.

The environment - your womb/life partner/close family - that your new baby comes into after her long journey here from the Divine is going to have a profound impact upon her life.
Some of the preparations you can make for your new baby:

  • Heal trauma’s, especially those based in your sexuality/pelvic area, e.g. sexual abuse, ancestral imprints.

  • Heal your womb.

  • Heal your unresolved womb and birth trauma’s from your own journey’s here.

  • Heal, strengthen and resource your relationship, gently process through any issues you have with each other.

Some of you may wish to cleanse your body with fasting, etc. under the guidance of a professional nutritionist or doctor.

The benefits of exploring the parenting styles you received in your own childhood, including your conception, womb and birth experiences, will be enormous for both your baby’s entry into your world and to the quality of the parenting you can offer right from the very beginning. The parenting you received will often shape the parenting you will give, even if you consciously don’t want it to! So many of our most formative experiences are deeply unconscious and still strongly influencing our lives.

You don’t have to be perfect to be a good parent. A commitment to your own ongoing healing and consciousness, and to developing and maintaining a good relationship is a wonderful foundation for parenthood. Develop good communication skills, keep your love alive and be willing to plumb your own depths to create fulfilling lives for your whole family. Children raised by parents who are connected, able to look at each other, and who support each other and also receive support from outside the family, will have the space and freedom to get on with being a kid!
